UPP STUDENT HEAD OF TCDJFS CHILDREN SERVICES

Michelle Tope, BSW Graduate, Fall 2007-Summer 2008

Michelle recently graduated from the UPP program on August 16, 2008. She is currently working at Tuscarwas County Department of Job and Family Services. Michelle has worked at TCJFS for more than 20 years; however after attending The University of Akron and applying for the UPP program, she followed her interests in the field of child welfare. During her field placement at TCDJFS, she learned about leadership tools, management, budgeting, and how to effectively organize a child welfare agency. Michelle coordinated foster care programs and contributed to the agency newsletter while completing her placement. She also shadowed intake workers and carried a case load to gain insight on on adoption services. As a UPP graduate mentor, Michelle will be providing some of the other UPP students with a presentation on her field experience. Michelle was awarded and has accepted a position at TCDJFS as Head of the Children Services Department. We are all very proud of her accomplishments and wish her well on her journey. Great Job Michelle!

Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to let you know that I was awarded the position of head of our
Children's Services department. I will begin transitioning into that position
immediately. The current department head retires 9/30.

You invested more in me than just teaching. Through your encouragement,
feedback, mentoring, and guidance I was challenged to rise beyond the
expectations I had set for myself. Thank you for all your efforts. Through
sharing yourself so generously and in such a unique way, your touch extends far
beyond the classroom into not only my life, but the lives of all those who will
be impacted through my work.

I'm certain our paths will cross again. Until then, take care and best wishes in
all your endeavors.

Michelle
